The world’s Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) have been running out of IPv4 addresses since 2011. However, the transition towards IPv6 has not been as smooth as it was supposed to be.   

There is no doubt about the fact that the predicted exhaustion of IPv4 addresses has occurred. The official enterprises responsible for registering IPv4 addresses, such as ARIN (American Registry for Internet Numbers), are in the final stages of doling out their final batch of IPv4 addresses.

While IPv6 may become the standard Internet Protocol at some point in the future, it does not seem to be anywhere near that standard for now.
